Chris Doering, Peter Burns say new Jeff Lebby, Lane Kiffin matchup is ‘going to be awesome’
Chris Doering and Peter Burns are anticipating a fun new SEC matchup after a hire took place over the weekend.
Mississippi State hired Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby as its new head coach to replace Zach Arnett. Before his time at Oklahoma, Lebby was the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin. Now, the two will battle it out as rivals.
“I love Jeff Lebby. Really thrilled to have him back in the conference and what he did at Ole Miss with Lane Kiffin,” Doering said on SEC This Morning. “It was really fun to watch. To think about those two coaches coaching against each other in the same state of Mississippi is going to be awesome.”
Peter Burns compared the two coaches to Nick Saban and Kirby Smart. Like Lebby, Smart worked under Saban before taking over as head coach at Georgia.
“It will be fun, it will add a different element,” Burns said. “Not dissimilar to Kirby and Nick in a way that both of these guys were on the same staff, they knew each other.”
