Chris Doering is adamant on having Jayden Daniels as his top pick to win this year’s Heisman Trophy.
The SEC Network analyst said on “The Next Round” with Jim Dunaway that despite LSU sporting a record with 3 losses (8-3), has no problem picking the Tigers’ senior standout.
“Without him, LSU probably has 5-or-6 losses this season,” Doering said.
In 11 games so far this season, Daniels has 3,677 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. On the ground, he has 1,014 rushing yards and 10 TDs on 124 carries.
Doering noted that Daniels has been No. 1 on his Heisman list since “late September, early October.”
“All you have to do is turn the tape on,” Doering said. “He’s playing at a different speed than everybody else is on the defense. He makes really good defensive players look like middle schoolers.”
Doering said Daniels has “great feel for the passing game,” which rang true in LSU’s 56-14 win over Georgia State this past weekend. The senior was 25-of-30 for 413 yards and six TDs.
Daniels also aided 3 of the Tigers’ receivers in getting 100-plus receiving yards against Georgia State, including Malik Nabers (8 catches, 140 yards, 2 TDs), Brian Thomas Jr. (4 catches, 103 yards, TD) and Kyren Lacy (4 catches, 101 yards, 2 TDs).
“I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t remember the last time a team had 3 100-yard receivers in one game,” Doering said. “(Daniels) can beat you in a lot of ways and he’s playing at his best right now.”
More importantly, Doering said Daniels is the “most outstanding player, the most valuable player and team player.”
“Every criteria you talk about leads me back to him being No. 1,” Doering said.
