One member of the 2025 recruiting class has tragically passed away, the University of Cincinnati confirmed on social media Tuesday afternoon.

In a press release, the Bearcats revealed that freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly tragically passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday morning. No details on the specifics of Kelly’s death were revealed at the time.

“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” said football head coach Scott Satterfield. “In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.”

Kelly was a 3-star prospect out of Avon (OH) High School in the 2025 recruiting class, generating interest from Cincinnati and Akron as a prospect. The 247 Sports Composite rated Kelly as the 65th player from Ohio in the cycle, and Kelly was an early enrollee for the Bearcats in January.

“We’ve suffered a heartbreaking loss today,” said Director of Athletics John Cunningham. “All of us at UC send our love and prayers to the Kelly family and we will do everything that we can to support them and our Bearcats student-athletes in the difficult days and weeks ahead.”
