Cincinnati could be in line to host a new bowl game in the future.
This bowl game bid will be led by the Cincinnati USA Sports Commission. The commission will look to bring a bowl game to Cincinnati. To plan out the possibility of a Cincinnati-hosted bowl game, the commission will start a feasibility study to see what it will take to bring a bowl game to the city.
If the bowl game is approved, it would tentatively be called the Cincinnati Chili Bowl. The game would be played in December at TQL Stadium, which is the home of Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati. The bowl game would air on the CW Network. It would not air on ESPN like most bowl games have aired on ESPN’s networks.
In 2022, the Holiday Bowl, Sun Bowl, and Arizona Bowl were the only bowl games not aired on ESPN’s networks. Bringing a bowl game to Cincinnati would help increase college football’s popularity in the city.
For the 2023 season, the University of Cincinnati will be joining the Big 12 Conference. Cincinnati’s move from the AAC to the Big 12 could open up the possibility of having different conferences play in the impending bowl game.
The status of the bowl game could be decided in the near future.
