Clark Lea and Vanderbilt suffered a disappointing 36-20 loss to Wake Forest in a game the Commodores had their chances, but just made too many mistakes.
There were positives in the game as quarterback AJ Swann threw for 314 yards and 3 touchdowns, but he also threw 2 interceptions.
Vanderbilt drove the ball much of the day, but they were stopped on downs 3 times. The biggest drive came when the Commodores got stopped at the 1-yard line of Wake Forest.
Lea talked to media after the game, and lamented what he felt were all the mistakes the team made in the game.
He also talked about the defensive game-plan was to force Wake Forest to run the ball, but that the 288 rushing yards allowed we in large part due to poor tackling.
Lea said the defensive design was to try to force Wake Forest to run instead of passing, but poor tackling resulted in the Deacs having 288 rushing yards

Lea also said that the decision to go on 4th-and-4 there was because they were down multiple scores. He felt good about the ability to convert the slant to Sheppard and felt that the play was there, but Sheppard just couldn't complete the catch

Vanderbilt has 1 final week to fix things before the start of SEC play. The Commodores travel to UNLV next week to take on the Rebels.
After that game, the SEC schedule is upon Vanderbilt as the team will get 2 home games to start SEC play against Kentucky and Missouri.
