ESPN’s Marty Smith pointed out an astounding fact about Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney on Wednesday night.

If Clemson defeats Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day, Swinney will move ahead of Nick Saban on the college football all-time winning percentage list.

That’s ironic, particularly because of the fact that Swinney will have to beat Saban to pass Saban. Currently, Swinney is at .7769 while Saban is at .7799.

Another note, as Smith points out — if Clemson goes on to win the national championship, Swinney will move ahead of the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant, who currently sits at .7800.

No. 4 Alabama and No. 1 Clemson kick off at 8:45 p.m. ET on Jan. 1 in New Orleans. The game will be televised on ESPN.
