Clemson deserving of a CFP spot? Paul Finebaum, Heather Dinich weigh in

Clemson is not usually one of the first teams talked about when it comes to the College Football Playoff. But do the Tigers deserve to have a spot in the big race?

After a disappointing start to the season in the loss to Georgia, the Tigers have fully bounced back with a 9-2 record overall. That begs the question of whether or not they are destined for more if they are to win out.

They finish the season with an in-state rivalry matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. Paul Finebaum sees a path for the Tigers, as he highlighted on “Get Up” with ESPN.

“Believe it. They’ve really had a tremendous year since they got run over by Georgia early on,” Finebaum said. “And what’s really interesting is they get a chance to beat South Carolina on Saturday… South Carolina may be playing as consistently and as well as any team right now. They haven’t lost since to Alabama in October, and they are a formidable opponent and an outside shot — outside shot — at getting in.”

Heather Dinich also can envision a postseason CFP Clemson team, but they’ve got to win the ACC to do so.

“Only if they win the ACC because they NEED that win against South Carolina because they’ve got nothing else,” Dinich said. “I’m guessing guys I’m the only one of the three of us who watched Clemson play Pitt, and let me tell you, it was the ugliest football game I have seen all year long. 58 rushing yards on the ground, are you kidding me? 4-point win, that’s their best win.”

It will be interesting to see how things shake out when the Gamecocks and the Tigers kick off at noon on Saturday at Clemson in the final game of the season for both South Carolina-based teams.
