It wasn’t that long ago when it seemed Clemson was the ACC instead of just a part of it.
Well, after last month’s 2 losses to Georgia and NC State, the Tigers have seemingly returned to mediocrity.
Clemson is now 3-2. The season-opening loss to Georgia was understandable. The Bulldogs figure to factor into the College Football Playoff mix and the Tigers just lost 10-3. However, a 27-21 loss to NC State was a head scratcher, to say the least.
Clemson’s bumbling has opened the door for Pittsburgh to win the ACC. The Panthers are 4-1, 1-0 in the ACC and are riding a 2-game winning streak. They also have a semi-quality road win at Tennessee this season.
Now, ESPN’s Football Power Index actually gives Pitt the best odds to win the ACC. Here are the current ESPN FPI odds to win the ACC:
Updated ESPN FPI odds to win the ACC:
Pitt 44.3 percent
Clemson 23.2 percent
NC State 14.5 percent
Wake Forest 6.3 percent
Virginia Tech 4.2 percent— Andrea Adelson (@aadelsonESPN) October 3, 2021
Pittsburgh’s next game is at Virginia Tech on Oct. 16 after an off week. We’ll see if the Panthers can keep the pressure on the Tigers.
