The most recent edition of the Coaches Poll was unveiled Sunday following an incredibly unpredictable week of college football, and thus, there was plenty of movement.
Texas was the only team in the top 10 that was stagnant, as the Longhorns remained atop the rankings while being idle.
Alabama’s 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt plummeted them down five spots to No. 7, which moved a whole host of teams up in the rankings.
Ohio State and Oregon rose to take the No. 2 and No. 3 spot respectively, setting up a top 3 matchup in Eugene on Saturday. Meanwhile, Georgia climbed to No. 4 following a 31-13 win over Auburn, and Penn State jumped two places to No. 5 after it took down UCLA 27-11.
Miami moved up to the sixth spot following its miraculous comeback win over California, while Ole Miss (8), Tennessee (9) and LSU (10) rounded out the Top 10. In total, six SEC teams still made up the Top 10 despite the weekend’s carnage.
Indiana (20), Boise State (22), Illinois (23), Pittsburgh (24) and SMU (25) were new additions to the rankings this week. Missouri also notably fell nine spots to No. 18 following its blowout loss to Texas A&M, who climbed to take the 14th spot.
The Tigers weren’t the furthest faller though. That title belongs to Michigan, who went from No. 10 just a week ago to the 21st spot in this week’s rankings.
