Look out for the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels defense. Limiting their last 3 opponents to 21 or fewer points might become a trend with their biggest tests of the season around the corner.

Cole Cubelic unpacked what he learned about the Ole Miss last week, including a message from defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

“Pete Golding told us they’re further ahead than he ever thought they would be at this point,” Cole Cubelic said during the latest “Cube Show” podcast. “And one of the big reasons is, I think, is what they’re doing with the front 4.”

“I think they have 3 more sacks right now rushing 4 than they did all of last year,” Cubelic added. “Jared Ivey was great off the edge. He’s doing some good things. They’re starting to use [Suntarine] Perkins in different ways, letting him get out in space, drop a little bit, not just … a sort of a speed edge rusher. They took him off all special teams, so he could focus in just on defense because they want to expand his role.”

Perkins has 3.5 sacks, a pass deflection, and 30 tackles this season. Ivey has 5.5 sacks, 31 tackles, and a fumble recovery this fall.

Cubelic added that Rebels defensive tackle J.J. Pegues is “having a good year” and “really learned how to use his hands well.” Pegues has 26 tackles and 3 sacks this year.
