Colin Cowherd compares Auburn legend Cam Newton to ‘inefficient’ NBA superstar
A staple in the rhetoric of nearly every sports radio host with national popularity is the practice of comparing athletes across sports. It is a surefire way to generate reaction across the sporting landscape and that spells success for veterans in the industry such as FOX Sports Radio’s Colin Cowherd.
On Tuesday, Cowherd spent nearly 6 minutes comparing former Auburn Tiger and current New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton to the polarizing point guard of the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell Westbrook.
“As they have aged and dipped athletically, you just get their inefficiency. They can’t just blow through people,” said Cowherd on his show The Herd, found on FOX Sports Radio and FOX Sports 1.
Cowherd likened Newton to Westbrook because of the personality flaws he sees in each, and not so much the undeniable premier athletic abilities of both.
“Quarterbacks need to be ‘quarterbackial.’ Grown ups. Adult. Mature. Focused. Self-reliant. Self-motivated. Coachable. There’s just certain traits I’m looking for in my presidents and in my quarterbacks. Cam’s not always great with those.”
