College football fans react to first-ever 2-minute warning in Florida State-Georgia Tech game
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Every year, there are rule changes in college football. One of the changes this year was the implementation of the 2-minute break.
It’s officially called the “2-minute timeout” instead of the “2-minute warning” like the NFL has, but for all intents and purposes, it’s the same thing.
Georgia Tech and Florida State are playing in the first game of the 2024 season as part of a Week 0 ACC showdown in Ireland, so the end of the second quarter was the first-ever 2-minute timeout in college football.
Understandably, not everyone is tracking college football rule changes each offseason, so several college football fans were caught off guard by the timeout. Here’s a sampling of the reaction on social media:
It’s crazy that there is a 2 minute warning in College Football now

Of course, there were also those who were used to the 2-minute warning thanks to the release of the latest version of the EA Sports College Football franchise:
Forgot that CFB 2 minute warning is new this year…. Guess I got used to it playing College football 25 way too much lately…

And then there were those fans who saw the 2-minute warning for what it truly is — another way to get more ads in front of viewers:
That 2 minute warning is nothing more than another ad insertion. Not enough of those in CFB.

College Football’s 2 minute warning: the answer to the question, “how do we make this game even longer in a way nobody wants?”

Roughly three minutes of commercials and ESPN promos in that inaugural 2-minute warning. Yeehaw.

The 2-minute break is here to stay, it seems. The NFL has had it for years, so this is another way that the game of college football is becoming more like the pro game.
