Mike MacIntyre won’t be leaving the Sunshine State anytime soon.

Florida International announced Thursday that it has agreed to terms on a new contract extension with MacIntyre through the 2027 season. The Panthers finished 4-8 in MacIntyre’s 1st season at the helm.

McIntrye took over for Butch Davis last season after serving as Memphis’ defensive coordinator in 2021. The Panthers went a combined 1-16 over the past 2 seasons and improved their win total by 300 percent. However, FIU lost its last 4 games and was outscored in those matchups, 177-55.

McIntrye previously coached in the SEC, serving on Ole Miss’ staff from 1999-2002. He later returned to The Grove under Matt Luke in 2019 as the Rebels’ defensive coordinator, ranking 59th in scoring defense (26.5 points per game) and 85th in yards allowed (416.8 yards per game).

Prior to returning to the SEC, McIntrye spent 6 seasons as Colorado’s head coach from 2013-18. In 2016, the Buffaloes impressed in the Pac-12, going 10-4 and representing the Pac-12 South in the conference title game. Colorado finished ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2002, coming in at 15th after losing in the Alamo Bowl to Oklahoma State.
