We’ve almost made it to college football season.

With Week 0 now just a day away, it’s a great time to survey the college football futures market in search of value. This story will specifically focus on potential win total bets from across all of college football.

For each bet, I’ve attempted to identify the best possible price from a variety of sports betting apps as well as the best prediction markets available.

College football win total best bets

Let’s break it down:

Alabama over 8.5 wins

I think the public has swayed too far against Kalen DeBoer. Heโ€™s no Nick Saban, but itโ€™s hard to argue his first 2 years in Tuscaloosa havenโ€™t been adequate relative to reasonable expectations. Youโ€™ve got the catastrophic losses to Vanderbilt and Florida State, but heโ€™s also delivered 2 wins over Georgia, an SEC Championship Game appearance and a road Playoff win in Norman.ย

Will that volatility be the status quo moving forward? Not if DeBoer wants to keep his job. He needs to cut out the bad losses. I have some level of confidence heโ€™ll be able to do that moving forward. Doing so in 2026 would put the Tide in position to potentially win 10 games and get back to the CFP for a second straight season.

If Keelon Russell wins the starting quarterback job, Alabama will have its most talented signal-caller since Bryce Young. A former 5-star prospect, Russell has Heisman Trophy upside at some point in his career and could be more productive than either Jalen Milroe or Ty Simpson were in DeBoerโ€™s offense. A revamped offensive line should help Alabamaโ€™s running game, but regardless, it couldnโ€™t be any worse than it was last season.

Alabama also returns a ton of production on defense, particularly in the secondary with Bray Hubbard, Dijon Lee Jr., Zabien Brown and Red Morgan.

As for the schedule, Alabama will face Florida State as its marquee nonconference opponent. I doubt the Noles will be able to sneak up on Alabama this year in Tuscaloosa โ€” Gus Malzahn is gone and Alabama will remember what happened last season. SEC play includes road games against LSU and Tennessee as well as home games against Georgia and Texas A&M. If Alabama takes care of business in the other 8, it can lose 3 of those 4 matchups and still clear this win total.

Pick: Alabama over 8.5 wins (54% on Kalshi)

NC State over 7.5 wins

This pick is mostly driven by a very weak schedule, though I do trust Dave Doeren to deliver an above-average level of competency on an annual basis. CJ Bailey returns as NC Stateโ€™s starting quarterback and should be a top 7 quarterback in the ACC this year, too.

More on the schedule โ€” the Wolfpackโ€™s 2 toughest games arguably come in September when they go on the road to face Virginia and Vanderbilt. After that, itโ€™s largely smooth sailing. Thereโ€™s no Miami, SMU, or Clemson at all. Florida State and North Carolina both come late in the year โ€” during a time when I suspect both of those teams may have quit depending on how their respective seasons go.

NC State will likely be a home underdog to Louisville when the Cardinals come to town, but thatโ€™s a game the Wolfpack can win. Two of the other better ACC teams on this schedule, Cal and Duke, also have to play at Carter Finley Stadium this season. Per SP+, NC State has the 68th-toughest strength-of-schedule, making it one of the easier slates among all power-conference teams. Based on this schedule, an ACC title game appearance is not out of the question.ย

Pick: NC State over 7.5 wins (44% on Kalshi)

UConn under 5.5 wins

UConn is coming off of one of its best seasons in recent memory, but Iโ€™m not sure why this win total is so high. After leading the Huskies to back-to-back 9-win seasons, Jim Mora left for the Colorado State job this offseason and was replaced by former Toledo coach Jason Candle.

Candle had the best resources in the MAC during his decade-long tenure there but regularly fell short of winning the league. He posted an 81-44 record and won 2 MAC titles, but his time there still felt underwhelming. A big reason why: Toledo won just 77% of games when it was favored by 7+ points. For all context, the FBS average over that same span is 84%.

Connecticut has several potential coin-flip games on its schedule this season including Maryland, Southern Miss, Air Force, North Carolina, James Madison, Syracuse, Old Dominion and Wyoming, not to mention road trips to Temple and Miami (Ohio) on the docket as well.ย

As for the roster, nearly UConnโ€™s entire team is made up of transfers. Per 247Sports, the Huskies signed 56 transfers this past offseason in addition to 17 high school recruits. With that much variance against a tricky schedule, Iโ€™m happy to fade the Huskiesโ€™ bowl hopes this season.

Pick: UConn under 5.5 wins (-125 on BetMGM)

Oregon over 10.5 wins

The only thing that gives me pause about Oregon is its lack of continuity on the coaching staff. The Ducks lost both coordinators to head coaching jobs this offseason. But Iโ€™m backing Oregon because Dan Lanning will still be heavily involved in the defense and deserves the benefit of the doubt with regards to his hiring track record at offensive coordinator. For 2026, Lanning promoted Drew Mehringer into that OC role, replacing Will Stein

Everything else? Looks good. Oregon might have the best quarterback in the nation in Dante Moore. The front 7 is loaded with NFL Draft potential and the secondary has some impressive returners. Evan Stewart and Dakorien Moore lead a WR room that should be among the best in the Big Ten.

The schedule isnโ€™t so bad, either. A trip to Ohio State is daunting, but thereโ€™s nothing else thatโ€™s too scary on the slate. Oregon will almost certainly be road favorites at USC and Illinois. The other likely-bowl-bound Big Ten teams โ€” Nebraska, UCLA, Michigan and Washington โ€” all have to come to Eugene.

Lastly, Oregon hasnโ€™t won a national championship under Lanning, but I think its dominance of non-elite teams has gone under-the-radar. The Ducks are 48-8 over the past 4 seasons. They are a staggering 41-3 straight up when favored over that stretch (and 28-16 against the spread)! That win rate of 93% is 20 points higher than the FBS average over the same span.ย

Pick: Oregon over 10.5 wins (45% on Kalshi)

Florida State under 5.5 wins

This brings me no joy to say, but I think the Mike Norvell era in Tallahassee will draw to a close this fall. Norvellโ€™s FSU program was never able to recover from getting snubbed from the College Football Playoff in 2023 despite a 13-0 regular season. Over the past 2 campaigns, FSU is 7-17 overall and 3-13 in ACC play.

In both of those seasons, there have been signs of Florida State letting go of the rope down the stretch. In 2025, the Noles lost 3 of their final 4 games by double digits, including a 19-point loss to a putrid Florida team. Their only victory in that stretch came against a Virginia Tech program that was enduring a midseason coaching change.ย

I expect a similar pattern could play out this fall. Florida Stateโ€™s schedule is very tough over the first 2 months of the season with SMU, Alabama, Virginia, Louisville, Miami and Clemson all on the docket. FSUโ€™s only reprieve during that stretch is a Week 4 game against Central Arkansas. If Florida State is .500 or worse by Halloween, we could see FSU run out of gas before a theoretically winnable stretch of games starts in November.ย

As for the roster, FSUโ€™s transfer portal additions have been less-than-inspiring since that 2023 cycle that resulted in an ACC Championship. This offseason, FSUโ€™s portal class is led by former Stanford and Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels, who has almost as many interceptions (22) as touchdown passes (24) in his college career. FSU also lost Gus Malzahn to retirement this offseason โ€” a big departure considering the Noles averaged an excellent 6.7 yards per play last season.

Pick: Florida State under 5.5 wins (+150 on DraftKings)

Texas A&M under 8.5 wins

Texas A&M started 11-0 last season โ€” a feat that shouldnโ€™t be taken lightly in the SEC. However, the Aggies benefitted from a very soft schedule (especially by this leagueโ€™s standards) and caught more than their fair share of breaks (they nearly lost to Arkansas and South Carolina). Last yearโ€™s schedule featured 0 CFP participants and 4 teams that had midseason head coach firings. Thatโ€™s a pretty fortunate ratio! They also got to play Mizzouโ€™s third-string quarterback and bad versions of South Carolina and Mississippi State

The schedule in 2026 is dramatically different. The Aggies will make road trips to Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa and Norman. Their November slate is gnarly โ€” at South Carolina, home against Tennessee, at Oklahoma, at Texas. Any of those 4 games could prove to be tougher than any SEC contest the Aggies won in 2025.

I also have questions about the roster, even if Iโ€™m a Mike Elko believer long-term. The Aggies replaced 4 starters on their offensive line, which was a big reason why they were able to be so dominant in the running game last season. Texas A&M has to be able to run the ball effectively with a quarterback like Marcel Reed who has struggled against elite defenses. If the O-Line and running game take even a small step back in 2026, it could have an outsized impact on A&Mโ€™s production.

Pick: Texas A&M under 8.5 wins (54% on Kalshi)

Syracuse over 4.5 wins

Syracuse took a big step back in Year 2 under Fran Brown, going just 3-9 overall and 1-7 in ACC play. The Orange had very poor quarterback play once Steve Angeli went down with a ruptured Achilles. Angeli led Syracuse to a huge win over Clemson, but suffered that injury in the 2nd half. The Orange didnโ€™t win another game the rest of the season as Rickie Collins and Joseph Filardi proved to be woefully inefficient.

Syracuse has Angeli back this season as well as a competent backup in Amari Odom, who was quite good in his first year as a starter for Kennesaw State in 2025. Odom led Conference USA in average yards per attempt last season and is also a threat with his legs. Either a healthy Angeli or Odom should be a massive upgrade on the production that Syracuse got from its quarterbacks in October and November last season.

Schedule-wise, Syracuse avoids Miami but does have to play Notre Dame in the final week of the regular season. The rest of the nonconference is manageable with games against New Hampshire and UConn. I think the Orange can go 2-1 in nonconference play.

As for the ACC games, thereโ€™s nothing too scary here. Syracuse will probably be an underdog in 5+ games, but most of these contests are winnable. The game against Cal at home in Week 2 is particularly important for the Orange โ€” they need to be able to take advantage of a Golden Bears team traveling across the country. If Syracuse can win that one and take care of business in nonconference play, it only has to pick up a couple more wins to clear this total. Itโ€™s possible Syracuse will be favored in Chapel Hill and at home against Boston College in Week 12.

Pick: Syracuse over 4.5 wins (+100 on bet365)
