The College GameDay celebrity guest picker was revealed for Saturday’s show for the Jackson State-Southern game.
The guest picker will be ESPN’s First Take co-host Stephen A. Smith. On ESPN, Smith does not typically take part in college football coverage, but he has connections to this week’s game. Saturday’s game between 2 HBCUs, Jackson State and Southern, is one of the biggest rivalries in the SWAC.
Jetting to Jackson, Mississippi., I am the celebrity guest picker on College GameDay — Jackson State University vs. Southern University this morning. Hanging with my boy Coach Prime aka Deion Sanders. Tune in to ESPN around 11:30a Eastern to ‘see me make my picks.’#HBCU pic.twitter.com/JdsDoa3OJZ

Smith graduated from Winston-Salem State University, which is a fellow HBCU school. He has been a supporter of HBCUs and works with ESPN to bring coverage to schools around the country. Most recently, Smith and the First Take crew took part in HBCU Week at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Smith talked about his appearance on Saturday’s episode of College GameDay:
“Guess who the celebrity game picker is this week for College GameDay? That would happen to be me,” Smith said. “Yes, I’m heading to Jackson, Mississippi. I’m heading there to see my man, ‘Prime Time,’ and the rest of the GameDay crew.”
During the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend, Smith participated in a joint-coverage broadcast between ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV for a basketball game between Morgan State and Howard. He has supported HBCU athletics for a long time and will continue to do the same on Saturday.
