College GameDay crew in agreement with surprising SEC champion pick

College GameDay was back on the air on Saturday, with the team of Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee in Bristol for Week 0 before heading to Charlotte for Week 1’s South Carolina-North Carolina contest at Bank of America Stadium.
Georgia is the pick by many to win a third straight national championship, which would make the Bulldogs the first to three-peat since the 1930s. But the GameDay crew feels differently as Herbstreit, Howard, and McAfee all picked Alabama to win their first championship since 2020.
The Crimson Tide juggernaut under Nick Saban will be dissected for years to come. But Kirby Smart’s work with the Bulldogs has some wondering if Georgia is the new standard-bearer in the sport.
We’ll find out if the Dawgs are the last team standing on Jan. 8 in Houston, or if the Tide (or maybe someone different!) will be holding the trophy to deny Smart and Co.’s shot at three in a row.
