College GameDay took matters into its own hands and shared what a 12-team College Football Playoff would look this season.
Fans will have to wait until next year for the format to become official, but that won’t stop GameDay from giving them a preview of what it could look like this season.
The top four teams would have byes and play the four winners from the first round.
Here are the matchups that would take place if it happened ahead of Week 9:
- No. 19 Air Force at No. 3 Ohio State
- No. 9 Alabama at No. 8 Oregon
- No. 11 Oregon State at No. 6 Oklahoma
- No. 10 Penn State at No. 7 Texas
The second round would feature these games:

Georgia and Alabama would be the only SEC teams in the playoff.
There are definitely some interesting matchups here. Bo Nix will be facing Alabama for the first time since his Auburn days in this format. A rematch of the SEC Championship would be great TV.
If Nix and company pull off the upset, it would be the first time that the Ducks and Bulldogs would play in both programs’ history.
What do you like about this format?
