Colorado ripped by fans, media for poorly-timed underwater graphic ahead of UCF game
Colorado is facing some heavy criticism on social media after posting an underwater-themed graphic ahead of its game vs. UCF this weekend.
The graphic comes on the heels of Hurricane Helene making landfall in Florida earlier this week. That storm has resulted in reported casualties in multiple states and the damage appears to be extensive, particularly in Florida.
Here’s the graphic that Colorado shared on social media:
It seems highly likely that there was no ill-intent behind the graphic from Colorado, but the timing of its release still caused some to question the awareness of the Colorado’s social media team.
The Buffs did eventually delete the graphic, but it was up for several hours before being taken down. Here’s some of the reaction that poured in while it was still up:
Orlando is an inland city. The only time they’d have this much water is after a…oh.
Yikes, Colorado. https://t.co/DPTd6F7n4N

What's worse: CU's pass protection or the timing of this graphic? https://t.co/wpZx4Mn4mK

Yeah, the graphic design team made this probably several days or even weeks ago, and yeah hard work and money went into this graphic, but not one person in the Colorado athletic department said, “hey maybe let’s not”

It's like Colorado just goes out of their way to alienate the entire nation.. how stupid do you have to be to post this graphic while Florida is in the midst of a massive Hurricane with flooding affecting 10's of thousands of its citizens. 25 people are F-ing dead from flooding. https://t.co/ffVoHXoLna

85 percent of what Colorado does is just stupid and tone deaf. https://t.co/uSx5sTV4ft

Half of Florida is underwater right now, countless people are going to be dead. UCF is in Orlando which is no where near the beach and this is the gameday graphic….. tough look even for Colorado. https://t.co/ZhVsnUufZE

As for the game itself, UCF is a 14-point favorite this weekend over the Buffs. Colorado is 3-1 on the season and is looking for its second straight Big 12 win this weekend after beating Baylor in Week 4.
Kickoff from Orlando is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
