Josh Mancuso is paid to be funny, and the actor/comedian put out his own theories as to how Oklahoma came up with the Sooner as its mascot.

On Monday night, Mancuso released a video that will stretch your imagination, your thought process as to just how Oklahoma did come up with the Sooner as its mascot — and, of course, it will make you laugh hysterically, which was Mancuso’s objective in the first place.

Mancuso’s act was naturally meant to be funny, but in truth here’s a brief history lesson as to how Oklahoma got the nickname Sooner. The school adopted the name Sooners for its football team all the way back in 1908 after originally calling themselves the Rough Riders and Boomers.

And while OU’s nickname is the Sooners, its mascot is actually the Sooner Schooner, that replica of an early 19th century wagon that you always see riding along the field during Oklahoma football games.

Mancuso doesn’t play it straight in his act, of course. He goes back and forth in a hysterical dialogue with a cowboy version of himself, which just makes you laugh even more.

At one point, Mancuso asks the cowboy version of himself if Cowboys would be a good nickname for Oklahoma.

“Too late, Oklahoma State already got that one,” says the Mancuso with the cowboy hat.

And when they get to the “Boomer Schooner” part of the act?

We’ll let you find out how that all turns out.
