Clemson is No. 1 in the rankings that matter — the rankings from the College Football Playoff committee. And now the Tigers are No. 1 in one of the two major polls.
The Tigers, who impressed pollsters with their 23-13 victory over Florida State, took over the top spot in the AP Poll Sunday afternoon, replacing defending national champion Ohio State, which remained No. 1 in the Coaches Poll and dropped to No. 2 in the AP Poll.
Only four SEC teams were in the Top 25 in the polls. Alabama moved into a familiar place atop SEC teams. With its 30-16 victory over LSU, the Tide jumped to No. 3 in the AP Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches poll. The Tide was No. 7 in both polls last week.
LSU dropped to No. 9 from No. 4 in each set of rankings.
Florida, a 9-7 winner over Vanderbilt, is No. 10 in the Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the AP Poll. Mississippi State improved four and five places to No. 20 in each poll after a 31-13 victory over Missouri.
Ole Miss and Texas A&M dropped out after losses to Arkansas and Auburn, respectively.
