The Kansas City Chiefs, which went the entire 2014 season without a touchdown pass to a wide receiver, took Georgia wideout Chris Conley with the 76th overall pick in the draft, 12th pick of the third round.
Conley, a 6-foot-2, 213-pound athletic freak, ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine and showed off a vertical jump of 45 inches (!) which should come in handy in red zone situations, where Chiefs receivers regularly failed last year.
Conley is the second Georgia Bulldog off the draft thus far, following Todd Gurley, who went 10th overall in the first round to the St. Louis Rams. Conley is also the SEC’s 18th selection in this draft, its second in the third round and its 11th of Friday night.
Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates, viewed as a second-round selection by many in the draft biz, remains unclaimed, and few expected Conley to come off the board before his rival from the plains.
