In June 2012, Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips were killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in Auburn. DeMario Pitts also died in the attack.

Desmonte Leonard was convicted of the three murders in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Leonard has since appealed the decision and his case was recently ruled upon by the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.

According to the Associated Press, the court upheld Leonard’s life sentence.

Three other people were injured in the 2012 shooting.
