Just when you thought the night couldn’t get any worse for South Carolina, it did.

The team’s standout receiver Deebo Samuel was lost for the season Saturday night in the 23-13 loss to Kentucky. The junior broke his leg during the contest. The injury is particularly devasting considering the huge season the receiver was having after successfully battling back from injuries the previous two seasons.

Samuel had been playing so well this season, leading up to the UK game, his head coach Will Muschamp “absolutely” supported his consideration as a Heisman candidate.

The junior had scored touchdowns on kick returns in each of South Carolina’s first two games of the season. He also had two receiving and one rushing touchdowns heading into the Kentucky game. Samuel had another five catches for 122 yards and a touchdown against Kentucky.
