Dabo Swinney came quickly to the defense of his starting quarterback Saturday following Clemson’s overtime thriller against Wake Forest.

Swinney said that he knows how talented DJ Uiagalelei is despite his struggles starting out the season.

“After 4 games if you don’t recognize he’s special, you’re blind,” Swinney said.

The junior quarterback had his best game of the season Saturday in the win against Wake Forest, recording 371 yards and 5 touchdowns. He hasn’t had that kind of success all year though as he struggled in the Tigers’ first 3 games.

Swinney commented on how Uiagalelei is a great quarterback, but has just had some bad games. He said that it may not be obvious, but he believes in him for good reason.

The Tigers have a big test next week as they take on NC State at home.
