Dabo Swinney speaks out at Clemson’s Black Lives Matter rally

On Saturday, Clemson football players led a Black Lives Matter march to protest racial inequality in the United States.
Coach Dabo Swinney has come under controversy lately due to a couple of incidents. One involved a Clemson assistant using the N-word in practice a few years ago and another involved Swinney wearing a “Football Matters” shirt in what was seen as a tone-deaf look amid the protests in the country.
However, on Saturday, Swinney spoke at the march and admitted there were things he didn’t understand, but added that he’s listened and learned:
Dabo Swinney: “I’m embarrassed to say that there’s things on this campus I didn’t really understand. I knew the basics but not the details. But I’ve learned and I’ve listened.”

Dabo Swinney: “It has to be everybody’s responsible to be more aware, to learn more and to speak out against racial inequality.”

Many of Clemson’s players also spoke during the protest, including RB Darien Rencher and QB Trevor Lawrence.
Clemson also recently announced it would remove John C. Calhoun’s name from the honors college after a petition was started.
