Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, in his 5th NFL season following a standout career in Starkville at Mississippi State, was carted off the field in the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s victory over the New York Giants after suffering a gruesome ankle injury.

Shortly after the game went final, Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams provided details on the extent of Prescott’s injury:

Transported to an area hospital to undergo immediate surgery, Prescott’s older brother, Tad, shared a pre-operation photograph of the pair on Twitter, writing, in part, “God is good, and he’ll be back stronger than ever.

Prescott had a career year in 2019, throwing for 4,902 yards, second-most in the league to Jameis Winston’s 5,109. This individual success carried over to 2020, as, entering Week 5 play, he led the league with 1,690 yards.

Prescott thrived under the tutelage of then-head coach Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, graduating as the program’s all-time leader in completions (734), passing yards (9,376), and touchdown passes (70).

With his campaign seemingly over, former TCU Horned Frog Andy Dalton replaced Prescott.
