Dan Mullen gets shredded for postgame comment following loss to Oklahoma
By SDS Staff

The Oklahoma Sooners thoroughly dismantled the Florida Gators 55-20 in Wednesday night’s Cotton Bowl.
Sixteen players were unavailable for Florida, including its top 4 receiving threats Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes and Jacob Copeland. Kyle Trask played, however, and it didn’t go well. The Heisman Trophy finalist threw 3 first-quarter interceptions and didn’t throw a touchdown for the first time in his career when starting a game. Backup quarterbacks Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson played most of the second half.
Many backups and scout team players participated (a lot) in the Cotton Bowl loss. That’s both good and bad, but remember, LSU was in the same position when it came to The Swamp and shocked the Gators earlier this season.
Oklahoma embarrassed Todd Grantham’s defense by racking up 684 yards of offense, including a whopping 435 on the ground. Yes, Florida’s offense struggled, but its defense struggled to tackle and even get lined up at times, which happened throughout the season.
Following the game, Mullen spoke to the media, and specifically one comment didn’t sit too well with fans and media. Mullen’s intent was to show that this is a completely different team without those 16 players on the field.
#Gators coach Dan Mullen: “The last game the 2020 team played was 11 days ago.”

While Mullen is technically right, comments like these after losses don’t sit well. Reactions poured in on this comment alone:
Florida coach Dan Mullen tonight after getting embarrassed:
“The last game this 2020 team played was 11 days ago.”
“We didn’t have to play.”
“I thought our scout team guys played well.”
Didn’t think it was possible, but his quotes are more embarrassing than his teams play

If you don’t have enough players then don’t play… If you have enough to play and get your ass kicked then say you got your ass kicked, credit the other team and move on. Play or don’t play. Win or don’t. Just own it. https://t.co/25zuMzm9Gb

This is the mentality of a loser. https://t.co/FSUUvlihNp

I love that he wants us to remember this team for the day it gave up 52 points and 600 yards to Alabama. Which I guess is more respectable than shitting the bed the week before against LSU. https://t.co/Qwy0s6eSlc

Next year’s team stinks. https://t.co/zqyvwrp9he

I don’t know what happened with Dan Mullen this year. I don’t know if it’s true colors, or the stresses of a year unlike any other. I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt. But there have been some things said that will stick with me throughout his tenure with the #Gators. https://t.co/gC8JFTpInU

What about 18 days ago, when y’all lost to a bad LSU team on your own field because dude threw a shoe. https://t.co/tVMYy6yveZ

Dan Mullen is so ridiculously unlikeable at times https://t.co/jG67zgoRCu

That’s a good way to talk about the “future” of your team. What a complete jackwagon…🤦🏻♂️ https://t.co/uAwBti5cvN

Okay so then forfeit your bowl bonus. https://t.co/JSToiYU7z2

What a terrible, trash statement. I used to like Mullen, but he had a team full of quitters and that’s on him. https://t.co/nt38S3Th63
