Fans, media react to SEC’s punishment for Dan Mullen following Florida-Missouri brawl
The SEC announced punishment for those involved in the Florida-Missouri Brawl on Saturday, including a $25,000 fine for coach Dan Mullen.
Florida defensive lineman Zach Carter and linebacker Antwuan Powell will be suspended for the first half of next week’s game vs. Georgia.
The SEC also suspended Missouri linebacker Chad Bailey, offensive lineman Dylan Spencer and defensive lineman Markell Utsey for the first half of the Tigers’ next game vs. Georgia. The Tigers are idle this upcoming week.
SEC fans were quick to point out the $25,000 fine for Mullen is the same amount the conference fined Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin last week for some ill-advised tweeting.
Here’s some of the reaction to this news from the SEC:
Dan Mullen ran on the field in a rage which caused a brawl between his team and Missouri and he gets fined 25K. @Lane_Kiffin barely complains about a critical officiating mistake which cost his team a win over AU and he gets fined 25K.
How are those infractions the same fine? https://t.co/a4LgZbvw4P

Lane Kiffin (officiating complaints last week) and Dan Mullen (his role in the Mizzou-Florida fight Saturday) were both fined $25,000.
Awaiting word on if Mullen will also want to pay his fine in pennies.

If Mullen’s stunt shook his team from a funk last weekend, and got them ready for the Cocktail Party, that’s $25K well spent. https://t.co/taj7yZNXsD

Dan Mullen has been fined $25,000 and Zachary Carter and Antwaun Powell have been suspended for the first half of the Georgia game. It definitely could've been worse for the Gators. https://t.co/0jtNFLc9Da

Dan Mullen should be out the first half too… He is a CLOWN

So @LaneKiffin retweets a tweet about the referees being wrong (after they admit being wrong) and gets the same fine as a Dan Mullen inciting a riot then doing the postgame presser dressed as Darth Vader. Sounds about right. https://t.co/vCrv5z94Hv

So Dan Mullen is fined $25,000 for his role in the Missouri-Florida brawl. Same fine Lane Kiffin got for retweeting about a blown referee's call last week – a tweet the league agreed with.
So, tweeting about (correct) refereeing is worse than helping instigate an all out brawl?

I can’t see how a 25K fine actually hurts Dan Mullen or Florida therefore I think that’s a pretty weak decision by the SEC.

Lane Kiffen gets 25 k Fine for a Re Tweet . Dan Mullen gets 25 k Fine for starting an Riot and Inciting It . ?

Dan Mullen incited a brawl and got the same fine @Lane_Kiffin got for tweeting. Think about that. https://t.co/fHMHfcn8yL

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin (after hitting retweet last week on Twitter) and Florida head coach Dan Mullen (who was involved and one could argue enflamed a bench-clearing brawl at halftime this week) were fined the same amount of money by the Southeastern Conference.

League should have fined the clown Dan Mullen $250k so maybe he would get it through his (apparently) thick skull that he is the adult in the room and and should be setting an example for his players. https://t.co/r7P7MbxN99

But yet, Dan Mullen who instigated the entire thing, gets away with just a $25,000 fine…and more Missouri players suspended than Florida players…Florida players were the ones throwing punches and connecting. You had video review to get this right…and did NOT https://t.co/r5IM8Bp9Pj
