Dan Mullen and Joey Galloway broke down one of the biggest matchups of the weekend during the halftime show of Ole Miss and Texas A&M’s matchup.
The analysts discussed the Alabama vs. LSU game, which kicks off at 7:45 p.m. ET Saturday night.
Alabama is looking for another signature win to keep itself atop the SEC West race and move closer to a spot in the College Football Playoff. LSU is hoping to get a signature win that could put them in a position to win the SEC West.
Mullen believes LSU’s shaky secondary might not be enough to contain Alabama’s high-powered offense.
“When you talk about the defense of LSU, the secondary has looked shaky at times,” Mulen said. “As we’ve seen Jalen Milroe throw the ball down the field, the biggest improvement I’ve seen on Alabama, Jermaine Burton, Isaiah Bond. We had questions early in the year about their receivers and those 2 guys are starting to make plays and look like the Alabama receivers we’re used to seeing. Can they have a big night against that LSU secondary?”
Galloway pointed to LSU’s nation-leading offense, saying that if it can get up big in the first half, Alabama might not be able to recover.
“You mentioned LSU leading the country in scoring, we watch Alabama get behind in a lot of games this season, I think more behind at halftime,” Galloway said. “If they do that in this game, I don’t know that they come back. This offense is way too good for LSU, and the over/under in this game is in the 60s, and that’s not what you’d expect about this level of teams playing, LSU-Alabama. The over/under being that high lets you know there’s going to be some points in this game.”
At the end of the day, both analysts picked Alabama to take care of business, with Mullen noting the homefield advantage the Tide has in this one.
“I like Alabama because they’re at home and the home-field advantage in the SEC, I think that can be a difference-maker in a close game,” Mullen said. “I think it’ll be a close game.”
