Dan Mullen reveals interesting preseason SEC power rankings

Dan Mullen may not be at Florida or Mississippi State anymore, but the ESPN analyst still keeps a close eye on the SEC.
Fans of his former schools won’t be thrilled with his preseason SEC rankings, which feature the Gators at No. 12 and the Bulldogs at No. 15 out of 16 total SEC teams.
Interestingly, Mullen doesn’t think Georgia will have the best record in the league this year. Instead, he has Texas in his No. 1 spot. He also has the Longhorns taking down the Dawgs in Atlanta at the SEC Championship Game:
Getting in the title game could come down to the tiebreaker. There are 6 teams that have a chance. @SEC @ESPNCFB @espn pic.twitter.com/PP3Wr35H63

But, as Mullen notes in his social media post, there are 6 teams that could vie for a spot in the SEC title game this year. Based on his rankings, those 6 teams are Texas, Georgia, Mizzou, Ole Miss, LSU and Alabama. That would leave Tennessee as the first team that Mullen doesn’t think has a realistic shot of making it to Atlanta.
This season is the first in the new 16-team SEC. There are no East and West divisions starting in 2024, which means the 2 best teams from the conference will meet up in the title game.
Most analysts think those teams will be Georgia and Texas, but we’ll soon start to see if anyone can crash the party.
