The College Football Playoff got it right by most accounts on Sunday when it announced that Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and TCU had made it into the postseason mix.
Several have weighed in on the decision to not include Alabama and how some of the rest of it shook out in terms of teams included and the way they were ranked.
“I’m happy they got it right, putting TCU I think at No. 3,” former Florida head coach Dan Mullen said. “In today’s college football, not punishing a team for playing an extra game.”
Rewarding teams for winning, rewarding teams for success. Not the brand name. If you had switched some of the names at the top, boy there would be outrage. If you just switched an Alabama’s name, and Ohio State’s name with TCU. An undefeated team playing in the conference championship game, lost in overtime by 3, they could never even drop, I think that’d be a deal. So I think they got it right. I love the matchups, as a college football fan, I’m excited to see these games.”
Ex-NFL quarterback Robert Griffin also viewed it as the right way to go about things and said it should be a day of celebration.
“To your point about TCU and Ohio State, just look at their resumes. TCU, 4-1 against top 25-ranked opponents, Ohio State, 2-1,” he said.
“Look at how they lost their last game. TCU lose in overtime by a field goal, whereas Ohio State got dragged at home late in the game by Michigan. But I just think we’ve got to get the energy up in here a little bit. This should be a day of celebration. This College Football Playoff is setup perfectly. Got the reigning champs, Georgia, trying to repeat. You’ve got Michigan trying to redeem themselves after getting embarrassed last year. TCU, I mean, the best story in all of college football. The comeback kids, the Horned Frogs or the horned lizards if you know you know. These guys are football-playing, cool jersey wearing, Baylor-heart breaking, Texas saw offing, Oklahoma stomping, I mean this TCU team is special, Max Duggan has been incredible. And then Ohio State, they have all the weapons they possibly could imagine. If they all play, to go out and beat a Georgia team that’s been dominant.”
It will be interesting to see how things shake out with the action on the horizon.
