Dan Reeves, former South Carolina Gamecock and NFL player/coach, passes away

Dan Reeves has passed away at the age of 77. Reeves, who participated in 9 Super Bowls as a player and coach, was a South Carolina alumnus.
Reeves grew up in Americus, Georgia and played football, baseball and basketball for Americus High School. At South Carolina, Reeves was a 3-year starting quarterback from 1962-64. Reeves left South Carolina as the school’s leading passer in program history, recording 2,561 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977.
After South Carolina, Reeves played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1965-72. Reeves originally signed as a safety but moved to halfback. He rushed for 1,990 yards and 17 touchdowns in his pro career, helping the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI. Reeves was on the Cowboys’ staff as an assistant coach win they won Super Bowl XII.
Reeves was a head coach with the Denver Broncos (1981-92), New York Giants (1993-96) and Atlanta Falcons (1997-2003). He won AP Coach of the Year in 1993 and ’98. He finished with a 110-73 regular-season record in Denver and was inducted into the Broncos Ring of Fame. Reeves went 201-174-2 as an NFL head coach.
