Danny Kanell says SEC teams are ‘terrified’ of traveling up north for CFP games
Danny Kanell is never shy about giving his opinion and firing off hot takes. The quarterback-turned-analyst is also not shy about calling out the SEC.
On Saturday, Kanell was on CBS Sports HQ for his “Kanell’s Conspiracies” segment. Kanell’s theory for this weekend is that SEC teams are “scared” to play in cold weather.
“I think the SEC is terrified to travel up north to try and play a road Playoff game,” said Kanell

Kanell then described how Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss are all currently slated to have road games in cold weather, per the latest CFP rankings. Alabama would go to Notre Dame, Georgia would go to Penn State, and Ole Miss would go to Indiana.
“They are scared, they are terrified,” said the analyst. “I saw receivers last week, it was 55 degrees in Athens and they had heat warmers and benches warmed up for these players on the sideline.”
Playing in the north in the winter would be a culture shock for SEC teams. Many of the players on SEC teams grew up in the South as well, so playing in cold weather would indeed be a new challenge.
Of course, it will be a while before we know what the CFP schedule will be. Most teams have at least 2 games remaining and the final CFP selection will be on December 8.
