Danny Lewis withdraws name from transfer portal, will stay at Alabama

Danny Lewis, an Alabama tight end who entered his name into the transfer portal at the end of the regular season, has now withdrawn his name from the portal and will play for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama next season after all.
Lewis has spent the past 3 seasons with the Crimson Tide, redshirting in 2023. He appeared in all 12 games this season, mostly as a blocker or on special teams. Lewis, a redshirt sophomore, caught just one reception for 5 yards during the Tide’s 66-10 win over Chattanooga.
Originally a 3-star commit from Louisiana, Lewis joined the Crimson Tide in 2022.
The move makes sense for Lewis, despite the fact that he rarely sees the field as an offensive threat. Alabama is set to lose both CJ Dippre and Robbi Ouzts after the season is up, and Lewis has been heralded by Alabama’s coaching staff as a guy that has made a jump since arriving in Tuscaloosa. Not to mention, keeping a guy with experience and a knowledge of the system is always a win in this day and age of college football.
The transfer portal will be open for about 2 more weeks after officially opening on December 9.
