The LSU defense already looks strong entering the 2016 season, but more good news could be on the horizon for the Tigers.

Travonte Valentine, a 330-pound defensive tackle, was dismissed from the LSU squad before his sophomore season. He did not see any game action for the Tigers in his freshman season in 2014 after the SEC ruled him ineligible.

After playing for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College last year, Valentine has been working on his academics this summer in order to earn his way back to LSU.

According to a nola.com article, Valentine could be making his return to Baton Rouge sooner than later:

An important note here is that completion of these summer courses, with passing grades, would make for an immediate reinstatement to the LSU program, according to numerous sources, including Valentine. His arrival is projected as the first week in August, giving him roughly a month of working with the team prior to the season’s start against Wisconsin on September 3. The thought is that Valentine, who is a disruptive force and gifted football player, would immediately push for playing time, and likely an insertion into the LSU starting lineup, assuming he does everything he is asked to do.

Valentine has completed two summer courses so far and has reportedly maintained the grade level he needs to regain admission to LSU.
