Deion Sanders, Jay Norvell meet after Colorado’s win over Colorado State
Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell buried the hatchet at midfield.
After a war of words during the week leading up to Saturday’s game between No. 18 Colorado and Colorado State, much was made about the postgame handshake between the two head coaches. Norvell seemingly called into question Sanders’ professionalism during the week. Coach Prime promised on several TV appearances Saturday morning he’d have something for the CSU head coach when they met on the field after the game.
In reality, there wasn’t much of anything. Just two head coaches paying respect to one another after a hard-fought, double-overtime 43-35 win for the Buffaloes.

Earlier this week, Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell said on his program’s weekly coaches show that he was raised to “take my hat and sunglasses off” when he talks to “grown-ups.” That was, clear as day, a shot at Sanders, who has frequently worn sunglasses and hats to his media availabilities.
During a team meeting at the end of the week, Sanders gave his team sunglasses to wear to Saturday’s game.
On ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning, he teased a memorable postgame handshake with Norvell. Then, on FOX’s pregame show, he previewed what he planned to do by deadpanning to the camera, taking off his hat, taking off his sunglasses, and holding out his hand.
In the end, it seemed cooler head prevailed. CU had to scratch and claw and fight its way back into the game, scoring a game-tying touchdown and two-point conversion with 36 seconds left in the game to force overtime. CU won it in double-overtime after coming up with an interception on fourth-and-goal with CSU needing a score.
