The Savannah Christian Prep standout chose to play on the West Coast over playing for the home-state Georgia Bulldogs. Notre Dame was another finalist, and Alabama was one of the final cuts for Robertson. He was once committed to the Crimson Tide.
He made his announcement during a ceremony at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
It’s an unfortunate miss for the Bulldogs, who made Robertson a top priority under new coach Kirby Smart.
Wide receiver is a clear area of need for the Bulldogs, who just lost 2015 leading receiver Malcolm Mitchell to the NFL.
WRs Isaiah McKenzie and Terry Godwin are expected to be major contributors for the Bulldogs in 2016, but Georgia could certainly be helped with some depth at the position.
Alabama WR Calvin Ridley’s younger brother Riley is a Class of 2016 signee that enrolled early and gave signs of being an early contributor during a strong spring game performance last month.
Robertson could have jump in right away and contributed alongside Ridley to catch passes from five-star freshman QB Jacob Eason.
Alas, it was not meant to be.
Georgia RB Sony Michel was in attendance for the announcement on Sunday.
