Derek Dooley reportedly a candidate for CFB head coaching job

Could former Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley be coming back to college football?

It’s certainly far from done, but his name has at least been brought up in connection with the job opening at Louisiana-Lafayette.

USA TODAY Sports columnist Dan Wolken said via Twitter on Thursday that he was told Dooley has surfaced as a “person of interest” for the Ragin’ Cajuns job.

Dooley coached the Volunteers from 2010 through 2012, and it didn’t go well. He posted a 15-21 record, as Vols fans joylessly remember.

Since being fired by UT in 2012, Dooley has served as the Dallas Cowboys’ wide receivers coach.

Dooley has a few ties back to the state of Louisiana. He was an assistant at LSU from 2000 through 2004 under Nick Saban, and later served as Louisiana Tech’s head coach from 2007 through 2009.

Wouldn’t it be sort of interesting to have him back in college football? Maybe it’ll happen.
