Desmond Howard cites Alabama’s ‘identity problem’ as area of concern

Desmond Howard sees problems with Alabama and what the Crimson Tide have become after the departure of head coach Nick Saban in what has been a very up-and-down season.
This comes down to identity, and the team certainly does not have the identity of one of college football’s greatest dynasty teams anymore like it used to.
“It feels like Alabama is a team who is stuck between who they were and who they want to be,” Howard explained. “And that’s what happens sometimes whenever you have a regime change like they’ve had in Tuscaloosa.”
Some have suggested it may be a cultural issue with things quite different in that area since Kalen DeBoer took the job. But it could be several different things.
“I don’t think it’s a talent issue, especially when you have the biggest win of the season against Georgia, and then you follow it up with the worst loss of the season against Vandy. And so, I think they have the talent, it’s just with this transition not being as seamless, as smooth as everyone anticipated it would be, and the players are starting to, hopefully, get used to what the expectations are.”

How the Crimson Tide are able to get back on track in the coming seasons will be something to keep an eye on, but there is no question that this isn’t the same team it once was under Saban.
