DeVonta Smith for Heisman? Media reacts to Alabama WR’s insane one-handed TD catch against LSU
By Keith Farner
Published:
Alabama WR DeVonta Smith made one of the best catches of the season late in the first half.
Smith elevated for a one-handed touchdown catch in the back of the end zone on a play where he was covered by CB Derek Stingley Jr.
That gave Smith 7 catches for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a catch that went for 65 yards. It’s that kind of performance that has Smith in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy, alongside QB Mac Jones and Florida QB Kyle Trask.
Here is his catch, and the reaction about it:

Devonta Smith is the best player in the country and it’s probably time to stop pretending otherwise.

I’ve run out of things to say about DeVonta Smith. Hand him the Heisman.

It’s about time people start talking about Devonta Smith for the Heisman. If the award goes to the best player in college football then he might be the front-runner.

Only twice since 2003 has a wide receiver been a Heisman finalist. That should change this year.
In the last 3.5 games for Alabama, DeVonta Smith has posted:
— 34 catches
— 737 yards
— 11 touchdownsArguably the best, most valuable player on the nation’s No. 1 ranked team.

It’s time for DeVonta Smith to legitimately be considered for the Heisman if you haven’t already.
