Our College Football Bowl Picks

Andrew Olson

Behren Morton, Texas Tech: Higher than 228.5 passing yards

Texas Tech will play its bowl game a little thinner thanks to the transfer portal. Lucky for the Red Raiders, they face a Cal team that struggles to defend the pass. I’m taking Morton to help pay for my next steak dinner.

Ashton Jeanty, Boise State: Higher than 15.5 rushing attempts

Jeanty averaged 18.5 carries per game on the season. Boise State could run into some trouble against the UCLA defense, but the Broncos may have to run the ball regardless of the score. BSU quarterback Taylen Green, MVP of the Mountain West Championship Game, committed to Arkansas earlier this week.

Joey Aguilar, Appalachian State: Higher than 253.5 passing yards

Aguilar enters the Mountaineers’ bowl game against Miami (OH) on a hot streak. He’s thrown for 275, 296 and 318 yards in his last 3 outings. Thus, his higher/lower number of 253.5 passing yards seems a bit too low. He’ll air it out early and often when the Mountaineers take the field again on Saturday.

Ethan Garbers, UCLA: Lower than 31.5 passing attempts

Garbers has battled injuries at times this year, but the veteran UCLA quarterback has attempted 31 and 9 passes in his last 2 games against USC and Cal, respectively. Heading into the bowl game against Boise State, don’t expect the Bruins to all of a sudden decide to have their QB throw it 40 times.

Our NFL Week 15 Picks

Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons: Higher than 86.5 rushing+receiving yards
I’m taking another ride on the Robinson rollercoaster this week. Robinson’s Atlanta Falcons face a weak run defense in Carolina. Add in the Falcons’ use of Robinson in the passing game, the combined yardage total stands out as an attractive play.
DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks: Higher than 63.5 receiving yards
I’m picking on one of my favorite targets this season, Philadelphia’s pass defense. I like Metcalf to play with some extra juice seeing his former Ole Miss teammate, AJ Brown, on the opposite sideline.
James Cook, Buffalo Bills: Higher than 23.5 receiving yards
It’s hard to get much going on the ground against the Dallas defense. This game could be a high-scoring affair with both teams airing it out. I like Cook to contribute more as a receiver than a rusher in the marquee matchup.

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers: Higher than 247.5 passing yards

Purdy is coming off of back-to-back 300-yard passing efforts against the Seahawks and Eagles. The 49ers’ offense is healthy and rolling lately. Against the Cardinals, there’s no reason to think San Francisco will slow down. This number is too low, as Purdy should easily go for 250+ through the air once again.

Sam Howell, Washington Commanders: Higher than 37.5 passing attempts

Howell only attempted 23 passes last week against Miami, but that snapped a streak of 6-straight games where he’d attempted 40+ passes. I like him to get back to his pass-happy ways this weekend when the Commanders travel to Los Angeles to face a resurgent Rams team with playoff aspirations.

Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts: Higher than 7.0 receptions

Gardner Minshew II loves throwing it to Pittman. In Pittman’s last 3 games, he’s had 8, 11 and 10 receptions. The Colts are firmly in the playoff picture, but need a win against the Steelers on Saturday afternoon to solidify their standing. Minshew will look Pittman’s way early and often once again.
