Did the Big Ten penalize Nebraska’s uprising? Conference gives Cornhuskers brutal start on new schedule

Nebraska was one of the most vocal schools in the Big Ten, between its players and parents, as fans across the Midwest pushed to play the season. Now that the Big Ten schedule is coming out, plenty of college football fans are wondering if the Cornhuskers paid the price for that aggressive stance.

The Cornhuskers open with a trip to Ohio State on Oct. 24, then Wisconsin on Oct. 31, Northwestern on Nov. 7 and Penn State on Nov. 14. It is difficult to find a tougher opening quartet of games in the country.

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren joined ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday morning. He explained some of the decisions to re-visit exploring play.

“The key thing in our focus has been and will always be is to make sure that the health and safety of our student-athletes is put at the top of our list,” Warren said. “At the time when we decided to postpone the season, we did not feel comfortable, and the chancellors and presidents voted for us to postpone the season. But as you’re aware these last 45 days many things have happened, and now with the ability to do daily testing, and with the protocols we were able to set forth. We made a promise from day one that we would always follow the medicine.”
