Mike VI, the beloved mascot of the LSU Tigers, was taken to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center over the weekend for CAT scans. Those scans were done so doctors could get a better look at the face tumor his handlers found last month.

After undergoing sedation in order to be transported to the hospital, Mike was successfully scanned and returned home to his on-campus habitat.

Now, according to a nola.com report, doctors are deciding on the best course of action for the 420-pound cat:

The LSU veterinary school says in a statement that doctors haven’t yet decided whether to treat Mike on one day or over two or three days. They say that without treatment Mike could live one or two months, but treatment could extend that to one or two years.

Though neither prognosis is particularly cheerful, it seems Mike is in good hands. Here’s hoping Mike is able to see a couple more LSU football seasons come and go.
