The President of the United States has come to the defense of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders after Sanders notably slipped out of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

On Friday, Donald Trump posted a message on the Truth Social platform calling on Sanders to be drafted “immediately.” The second and third rounds of the NFL Draft take place Friday night.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”

Sanders was one of the biggest stories of the opening round of this year’s NFL Draft on Thursday night. He was widely regarded as the No. 2 quarterback in the draft class and linked to the New York Giants, the New Orleans Saints, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New York drafted a defender with its No. 3 overall selection and traded back into the first round later on in the evening to take a quarterback. It just wasn’t Sanders. Instead, the Giants drafted former Ole Miss passer Jaxson Dart.

The Saints drafted an offensive tackle and the Steelers opted for a defensive tackle. Sanders slid out of the first round and looks like the biggest wild card on Day 2 of the draft.

He could go early on, or something larger could be at play that is preventing a team from bringing the former Colorado quarterback aboard.

Sanders did not attend the NFL Draft in Green Bay on Thursday night. Instead, he held a draft party at home with his family. When the night ended and Sanders was still left without a team, he admitted he did not expect the night to go the way it did.

“We all didn’t expect this, of course,” Sanders said. “But I feel like with God, anything’s possible — everything’s possible. … We all know this shouldn’t have happened. But we understand, we’re on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We’re going to be happy regardless.”
