Drake Maye stepped in to be the New England Patriots starter in recent weeks and has played well thus far.

In a game against the Jets on Sunday in which Maye had already shown his willingness to run on multiple occasions, the former North Carolina quarterback bounced off some defenders in order to pick up a first down. As he began to initiate his slide, Maye was hit in the head by a Jets defender from the side.

Maye’s head appeared to snap forward on the play, and he was taken off the field and tended to on the sideline shortly after.

The New England Patriots announced that the quarterback would be questionable to return soon following, and later in the game he was downgraded to out.

In three appearances, two of which were starts, Maye has accounted for 541 passing yards and 5 touchdowns on 64.1% completion. He’s only thrown a pair of interceptions and appeared to be settling into playing at the pro level prior to Sunday’s game.
