Ed Orgeron discusses how LSU adjusted to defeat Mississippi State on Saturday
By SDS Staff
Published:
LSU entered Saturday’s game at Mississippi State with a better taste in its mouth from the Bulldogs’ season-opening win last year in Baton Rouge. The Tigers delivered payback in Starkville, winning 28-25.
After the game, coach Ed Orgeron was happy to discuss Xs and Os. He shared that the LSU coaches had worked on defending the Air Raid after KJ Costello posted a record passing performance last year. LSU used a three-man front on defense, a look the Tigers had not shown on tape. Orgeron noted the 3-2-6 scheme was borrowed from Arkansas. Orgeron did not mind seeing MSU complete short passed. The Bulldogs managed 371 yards through the air.
Orgeron also discussed the team’s overall performance and highlighted individual performances. Here are the highlights from his postgame presser:
Ed Orgeron on the win:
“We’ve been working on stopping this Air Raid since last year. We made some improvement, but wish we would have finished.” #LSU

Orgeron: We've been working on the 3-2-6 since the Sunday after our game last year.
We watched what Arkansas did to them, and it worked.#LSU

"We had a meeting this morning about 6:30, the coaching staff. Corey Raymond was steaming," Ed Orgeron laughs a little. "I've never seen him like that."
Says the DBs coach was eager for a better showing after last year's game. Big week of practice. Very motivational this AM.

Orgeron said Jake Peetz predicted on the headset before the RPO touchdown to Kayshon Boutte that if the safety came running down, pass to the slant. That's what happened. #LSU

"Big plays fuel emotions… and we had to crowd out the game."
Ed Orgeron says LSU was planning to take the opening kickoff & trying to strike first, but Mississippi State "beat us to the punch."
But the takeaway helped swing that early opportunity back the Tigers' way.
