The LSU Tigers lost to No. 1 Alabama 55-17 in Baton Rouge on Saturday night, falling to 3-5 on the season.

This was a payback game for Alabama after LSU won in Tuscaloosa en route to a national title and perfect 15-0 season in 2019. After the win over the Tide in 2019, coach Ed Orgeron touted what the victory would do for the Tigers on the recruiting trail.

In his postgame press conference after Saturday’s loss, Coach O was staying positive. He explained how this loss may actually help the Tigers on the recruiting trails:

Q: Does a loss like this this help or hurt recruiting?

A: “I think it helps recruiting. Recruiting has been fine. Our guys stuck with us and commitments stuck with us. I don’t want to say it helps recruiting, because you never want to lose like that. But when guys see that ‘Hey I can come in and play. There are opportunities for me.’ There are a lot of young guys and a lot of freshmen who are playing right now. I think that’s the way to take it.”

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, LSU currently has the No. 3 recruiting class in the country and the No. 2 class in the SEC. Alabama has the No. 1 class, but Coach O might be right in that the loss won’t hurt the Tigers too much.

Many good feelings about the 2019 title still remain.
