There will be two players wearing No. 18 for LSU this season.

It was announced early this morning that Ed Orgeron has assigned another No. 18 jersey for the first time in school history. FB J.D. Moore will join DE Christian LaCouture to wear the jersey this season. Both players missed 2016 due to injury but are expected to contribute this season.

The school tweeted out a photo with both players Monday morning:

The tradition of the No. 18 goes back to 2003 and QB Matt Mauck. Mauck wore 18 when he helped lead LSU to their first national title since 1958. Upon graduation, Mauck passed the number on to Jacob Hester and a tradition was started.

The No. 18 for LSU has become synonymous with character and excellence on and off the field. Traditionally only one player has donned the 18 per season, but Orgeron saw fit to honor two young men this season.

The duo joins an impressive list of previous players to wear the jersey: QB Matt Mauck (2001-03), RB Jacob Hester (2004-07), TE Richard Dickson (2008-09), RB Richard Murphy (2010), DB Brandon Taylor (2011), DT Bennie Logan (2012), LB Lamin Barrow (2013), RB Terrance Magee (2014) and CB Tre’Davious White (2015-16).
