Ed Orgeron coached his first game on Saturday since it was publicly announced that he and LSU would part ways at the end of the season.
The Tigers neutralized Ole Miss at the outset, but then the Rebels got rolling and the Tigers couldn’t keep up in a 31-17 loss in Oxford.
The Rebels rang up 470 total yards, while LSU was held to just 77 rushing yards a week after the Tigers had a big rushing attack in the win over Florida.
Here’s some of what Orgeron told the media after the game:
Ed Orgeron says #LSU came to fight, but it didn’t capitalize in the first half. Then, after the defense hung in there well, Ole Miss made some big calls and big plays as LSU got less disciplined.

Orgeron was asked if today made him question coaching out the season.
“Never. Not even a thought.” #LSU

“We didn’t execute when we needed to execute. But I thought they came ready to play.”

#LSU coach Ed Orgeron says he knew his guys came to fight after a good week of practice.
But a missed opportunity on fourth down near the goal line and a big Ole Miss run in the second swung the game away.
Says he felt like Rebels’ edge on the ground was the story of the game.

Ed Orgeron on Garrett Nussmeier: “I thought he gave us a little spark. … We got to look at it. I don’t think Max was doing poorly, I just think he didn’t have the time.”
