The LSU Tigers announced a 1-year, self-imposed postseason ban on Wednesday evening, coming as the team currently sports a 3-5 record.

Many fans weren’t buying the timing of the Tigers’ bowl ban, saying the NCAA would see right through the attempt to self-impose a penalty.

But, for the 2020 season, the Tigers won’t play in a bowl game. On his weekly radio show, coach Ed Orgeron explained how the players took the news and why this year was the year to do a bowl ban:

LSU has already had a number of high-profile injuries and opt-outs, in addition to the players they lost from last year’s title-winning team.

We’ll see if further punishments are handed down by the NCAA.
